Title

Alfie: Alfie Gets in First

Description

"A small boy reaches home just before his mother (and baby sister) and slams the door shut. The key is inside the house with Alfie, however, and a small excitement ensues. With elements of the cumulative tale - as neighbors and milkmen offer assistance - the story reaches a very happy end in which no one is in any way blamed. Inventive use of the double spreads establishes teh simultaneous display of indoor and outdoor actions. The setting is English and the prose understated, and the illustrations, in full color, manage to be pleasing in a slightly scruffy way. The blurb on the back of the jacket suggests that this is the first title in a projected series of Alfie books. If so, it's an auspicious beginning by an accomplished author-artist."
