Rayner, Tague:
New Deans Named
New Deans for the Faculty of Law and the School of Library and Information Science have been appointed at Western.
Prof. Wesley B. Rayner has been appointed Dean of Law for a five-year term which begins May 1, 1984, and Prof. Jean M. Tague has been appointed Dean of SLIS for a seven-year term, beginning July 1, 1984.
The appointments where announced by President George E. Connell, following approval by the Board of Governors at its January 26 meeting.
Prof. Rayner, 43, has been a faculty member in Western's law school since 1968. He specializes in property law, land development law, landlord and tenant legislation, and labor law.
A graduate of UWO, Prof Rayner also did postgraduate work at Yale University. He was a lawyer for the firm of Blake, Cassels and Graydon before his faculty appointment at UWO.
Prof. Rayner has written two books, Falconbridge-- Law of Mortgages (1977) and History of Subdivision Control (1976), plus numerous other articles. He has served as an arbitrator in various Ontario labor disputes and was President of the Ontario Arbitration Association in 1980.
He will succeed Philip Slayton, who resigned the post June 30, 1983. Prof. Keith McNair is serving as Acting Dean until April 30, 1984.
Prof. Tague, a faculty member at SLIS since 1974, previously held appointments at Memorial University, Newfoundland and positions as librarian in Ottawa, Arizona and Montreal. Prof. Tague received her B.A. and B.L.S. degrees from the University of Alberta and McGill University respectively. She received her Ph.D in information science and statistics from Western Reserve University.
She has lectured and written extensively on information retrieval, bibliometrics, database management, simulation, theory and measurement of information, and quantitative methods in library and information work. Prof. Tague has served as a consultant for design of computerized catalog and collection inventory systems.
