CLASSIFICATION BLUES
I hear the chain ascending,
I’m goin’ round the bend,
And I ain't acted normal
Since I don’t know when
I’m stuck in the SLIS system
And time keeps draggin’ on
Call numbers I must list them
From Moncton to Hong Kong
When I was just a user,
Librarians gave me looks
Now, don’t you go in reference
Don't ever play with books
But I read a monograph
To make the day go by
Now I got no time to laugh
Just time to classify
But if they freed me from old SLIS
If the next array was mine,
I’d experience more bliss (not Bliss!)
Than man ever felt from wine
I’d go far from this SLIS school
That's where I’d want to lie,
Where there’s ne’er a reference tool,
and the beer’s never dry
