Publishing Note: Palm leaf manuscript. Likely Sanskrit or Telugu. Scribes etched lettering into dried palm leaves (“ola”) using a stylus, then applied dry ink (e.g., “black soot”) to the etchings to make the text visible. The practice itself is 2000 years old, although the date of this manuscript is unknown. Holes through which string or cord would have been threaded to bind the materials together are placed at central points in the leaves and boards, but the manuscript is not currently bound; no string or cord remains. Likely religious, spiritual, or historical in nature; may have been part of a set.
