Sacred Fire Ceremony Video
In April 2022, as a way of celebrating the launch of the Smoke Signals Radio Show Archive, Dan and Mary Lou led a sacred fire ceremony at the Reflection Circle at King’s University College on the lands of the Haudenosaunee, Anishinaabek, Lūnaapéewak and Chonnonton Nations. During this special gathering, Dan and Mary Lou reflected on their work in media—particularly radio and print journalism—and discussed how sharing stories from Indigenous communities across Turtle Island became “a way of life” for them, as Dan has said. The video below records the Smokes’ reminiscences of their life’s work in Indigenous media as well as the celebration of the archive with friends and colleagues.
