Description

The Zine for Neurodivergent Teens presents the concept of digital detox and disconnection to neurodivergent youth, with tips and tricks for prioritizing digital well-being. The Zine provides a fun and interactive experience as teens can fold the zine themselves, while learning about strategies to tackle phone addiction without demonizing the use of digital technology. Neurodivergent people tend to search for quick gratification and stimulation, often fulfilled through a dopamine rush from social media, so the Zine presents ideas to receive dopamine as the reward for completing fun tasks. There are many trends in youth spaces online that are focusing on the ‘analog’ way of living, and enjoying how the internet used to be in the early 2000s, which served as the inspiration for the design.

Designed to be a low-effort method for digital literacy programming in library spaces, the Zine can be printed on a 17x11 inch paper for visitors to take and form themselves. There are QR codes that can be scanned to access a permanent digital version of the Zine and a resources page with instructions, resources, and further information about the topic.
